MORE than 500,000 TEU from China crossed the Kazakhstani border by rail to the west through the logistics base at Lianyungang, reported Xinhua, citing Nanjing Customs.

The range of goods delivered by China-Europe trains through Lianyungang to Central Asia includes more than 400 items, including household appliances, pharmaceuticals and construction materials.

This base holds a leading position in China, in terms of the volume of transit transportation of Central Asian ferroalloys, potassium fertilisers, and cotton yarn.

In 2023,the freight trains operating along the China-Europe international railway freight routes and departing from the Lianyungang logistics cooperation base transported up to 66,100 TEU, which is 10.7 per cent more than in the previous year.

Being the first real platform project launched under the Belt and Road Initiative, this base has become an important hub for cross-border cargo on the Eurasian continent.
