Shein changes to bring Chinese goods closer to US shoppers

16th October, 2023

SHEIN, the prominent e-commerce giant recognised for its affordable clothing and home goods, expedites shipping for US customers by importing more low-priced products directly into American warehouses from China, reports Reuters.

This development revealed through data provided exclusively by global trade analysis firm ImportGenius, signifies a strategic move by Shein to reduce delivery times.

Previously, Shein customers in the United States often experienced waiting periods of two weeks or longer.

Analysts suggest this delay has placed the fast-fashion e-commerce platform at a competitive disadvantage, especially compared to industry giants like Target, Walmart, and Amazon, particularly during the busy holiday shopping season.

In their quest to enhance delivery times and as they set their sights on an initial public offering, analysts said Shein is likely to continue expanding its bulk shipments to the US.

The import data disclosed demonstrates Shein's efforts to close the gap in delivery speed with retailers like Amazon, which has endeavored to offer next-day or two-day shipping to customers who subscribe to its Prime membership service for $139 annually.

This shift in strategy represents a departure from Shein's traditional approach, which involved shipping goods directly from China to customers, as the company lacks any physical stores within the United States.
